“Turning Stone” as pool players like to call it, is a very professional run event that is run by Mike Zuglan as a stop on the Joss Tour.

This pro-am pool tournament showcases a full field of 128 of the best of the best men and women pool players… all vying to make a name for themselves.

Julie Kelly has been a power player on the Joss Tour for some time, but is enjoying the confidence of defeating the most recent Million Dollar 9 Ball Shootout Champ - Corey Deuel. The match drew the attention of the knowledgeable crowd, as Julie Kelly breaks and runs the last consecutive racks for the gritty win.

While Julie Kelly has been a top pro on the WPBA for some time, another top emerging womens pro is looking to show the world that she can hang with even the best guys on tour. 2007 WPBA rookie of the year Joanne Aston defeated Jason Hutchings in another exciting Hill-Hill match.

AZbilliards.com reports the following upsets.

Tony Robles was the first top seed to be sent packing to the left side of the board, but by the end of Thursday play he was joined by Shawn Putnam and Corey Deuel.

Robles lost a hill-hill heartbreaker to Chuck Altomare early on Thursday.

Putnam ran into a buzzsaw by the name of Jonathan Pinegar. Pinegar made quick work of Putnam for a 9-3 win.

In one of the bigger upsets of the day, WPBA Star Julie Kelly showed no respect for Corey Deuel’s recent win at the Million Dollar Shootout and sent him to the one loss side 9-8. Deuel actually led the match 8-6, but a bad safety by Deuel let Kelly to the table where she ran out the set.

Another WPBA star who scored a nice win was Liz Ford who topped Bobby Blackmore 9-8 on Thursday. Karen Corr wasn’t even tested in her 9-1 match against James Roberts and Canadian Joanne Ashton scored a 9-8 win over Jason Hutchins.

My top two picks for this event are…

    1. Shane Van Boening
    2. Robb Saez

-Shane was extremely impressive at the Million Dollar 9 Ball Shootout last weekend, and will look to bounce back with the W.

-Many people know Robb Saez as a top Florida Player who has dominated on the Florida Pro tour, but his roots are coming up from the NY pool scene.

Robb has been playing great lately, and I look at Robb Saez surprising most by snapping this event off.

Got something to say?
