“The Hitman” Thorsten Hohmann rolls through the Lucasi Hybrid Classic 14.1 Championship.
August 2, 2008
“The Hitman” Thorsten Hohmann continues to prove that he is one of the most dominant straight pool players in the world with his most recent win.
Thosten Hohmann is a modern athlete with an old school flair. “The Hitman” or “Toastie” has the ability to dominate in not only 8 - Ball and 9 - Ball, but in the game that was popularized by the movie “The Hustler” - Straight Pool!
14.1 or Straight pool, is a game that is coming back like many other arts that have a cyclical nature. This is a game of nerve, intelligence, stamina, stoke and technical skill.
I am a big fan of the game, and believe that it is truly an art form that is worth appreciation.
Be sure to read the breakdown below.
Hohmann Proves He’s The King of Straight Pool at The Lucasi Hybrid Classic
Thorsten “Hitman” Hohmann went undefeated through a field of all star players at the inaugural The Lucasi Hybrid Invitational Classic 14.1 Championship. Hohmann defeated his last four opponents, first with Stevie Moore 150-85, then USA’s 14.1 hotshot John Schmidt 150-51, and then dark horse Dave Grossman 150-26.
Hohmann King of 14.1
Mika Immonen was trail blazing his own path with a 99 & out run against Charlie Williams 150-42, then manhandled Johnny Archer 150-63, destroyed Dennis Orcullo 150-49.
The finals was everything a 14.1 fan could want with Immonen coming out with a 100 plus run to lead 112 to 3. Then Hohmann turned up the heat with an amazing 169 ball run to turn the tides 172 to 112. Then both players showed some nerves under the intense pressure with a few misses as it was anyone’s ballgame with only a few racks left.
Mika with already 3 runs in the event over 100 balls only needed 44 balls and took a swing at a dead ball in the stack. It missed! This left Hohmann needing only 8 balls for the win and he did with a final 200-156 score.
