Strong Emerging Women Pro Pool Players Qualified for Largest Televised Women’s Pool Event Ever… The Women’s World 10 Ball Championships.
May 28, 2009
Dragon Promotions has recently announced a media partnership with ESPN Star Sports for the first Women’s World 10-Ball Championships. This 48-player all-star event will be broadcasted to more countries and viewers than any other women’s event in the history of billiards. The result is a tremendous amount of exposure, interest, and entertainment value surrounding the sport of pool.
The event will take place at SM Mall North Edsa in Manila on June 2-6,2009 ESPN STAR Sports has an audience reach of over 310 million viewers which will serve as a jumping off platform for the women’s pool in Asia and beyond. The Pro ladies line up will be a who’s who of top talent all vying to show the world their unique talent for the sport of pool.
Two-time World 9-Ball Champion Ga Young Kim (Korea), World #1 Monica Webb (USA), 2008 Player of the Year Kelly Fisher (England), Japanese Champion Akimi Kajitani, and World Games Gold Medalist Jasmin Ouschan (Austria) are just some of the all stars of female talent attending the event. Filipina talents Rubilen Amit (2007 World Championship runner -up) and Iris Ranola (2nd Place US Open) will be the top two hot local favorites.
There will be a strong contingent of up and coming female players from the USA who have qualified for the event. USA will be pulling for the explosive woman pro pool players who have shown a relentless amount of heart and determination in qualifying for the event.
It would be a tremendous underdog story if any one of the USA qualifiers made a statement by capturing the biggest title in Women’s Billiards. The 3 favorite qualifiers in my estimation are Angel Paglia, Jeannie Seaver and Kim Jones.
All three of these top women’s players play pool at the professional level, but seem to have gone through a “re-birth” of sorts. They are all more committed and impassioned about playing the game at it’s highest level, and have showed relentless determination in overcoming adversities in different ways.
Recently, Angel has been on fire, winning several regional tournament stops and has her sight set on making a splash in the Philippines. Angel’s game has dominant potential and she is hungry to break through in a major way.
Jeannie Seaver was at one time a top 20 touring pro, but has pulled back from the game to a degree. Jeannie has a renewed sense of focus and playing in the Philippines in the World Championships is the chance to show the world her amazing talent. Jeannie is a Filipina American who will be a major threat in the event.
Kim Jones is the first black woman to compete in billiards (pool) for a world title. While Kim has never been able to commit herself 100% to the sport due to a long career with IBM, but has recently decided to refresh her commitment to the game, making a statement by earning her way into the event through a gritty win in a recent qualifier.

By NYC Grind Contributor, “The Other” Alison Fischer
On Saturday, May 23rd, a beautiful Memorial Day weekend in East Rutherford, NJ, the ladies of the J. Pechauer Northeast Women’s Tour could be found heating up Castle Billiards with what is no doubt some of the best women’s pool in the Northeast.
While many people were out enjoying the holiday, 39 of the toughest players from across the region showed their dedication to the game, and turned out to vie for a WPBA qualifier, including Megan Smith (formerly Minerich), Holly Sholes, Pamela Cimarelli (formerly Treadway) My-Hanh Lac, and 13-year-old phenom Briana Miller.
To follow up her 2nd place performance at the Primetime Billiards stop, Pamela Cimarelli, who is sponsored by Hot Shot Billiards in Deptford, NJ, dominated this very strong field of players, running undefeated through the weekend, to claim the title.

Brunswick Billiards Offers an Exclusive Limited Edition High-End Pool Table Named “Zanzibar” - Only 10 Made
May 28, 2009
Brunswick Billiards began business in 1845 and instantly set a standard in the game and sport of billiards. Their goal was to connect people through superior craftsmanship and innovation, and they have continued to raise the bar in many different ways since its inception.
Brunswick has grown and it has moved into the areas of life fitness, boating, and bowling, as they continue to innovate and evolve. While they have grown large in size, they continue to provide a vital lifeline to the consumer, and competitive landscapes of the largest participation sport in the world. Brunswick Billiards, which is a division of Brunswick has a 300 store-strong dealer network in the USA and more in Canada. Brunswick has been making waves with it’s newest edition to the “Gold Crown” family of table… as they have evolved it’s design into the Gold Crown 5.
Brunswick Billiards has recently announced that it has rolled out with a super-exclusive table called the “Zanzibar.”
Don’t be too quick to design your room with a Gold Crown 5 if you think you think you are the “Most Interesting Man in the World.” (Character from one of my favorite beer campaigns…)
When I think “Who would own this table?” it would definitely have to be someone like the “Most Interesting Man in the World.”
This table is miles from the ordinary, and is a brass ring that adds a unique type of energy, and of course “spice” that is unique to the essence of Zanzibar. This table has inspired design that is highly unique, and Brunswick plans on only producing ten “Zanzibar” tables, period. This table will surely be a collector’s item in time… possibly making it better investment than what a CD may be yielding in today’s market.
Irrespective of whether the ultimate monetary value of the table goes up or down, the ability a pool table has to bring family and friends together is priceless. A pool table, in my opinion, is best suited when it reflects the personality and style of its owner, and this table would be a good fit with someone who has a bold sense of adventure.

Ryan McCreesh is Dominant in a Breakout Performance as He Captures His First Predator Tour Title
May 26, 2009
“Ginky” George San Souci & Ryan McCreesh
The Predator Tour’s sixth stop of the season came through Comet Billiards this past weekend, and drew an extremely strong field of 58 players. The players were all business as they came out to play on Memorial Day weekend all vying to make a statement at the home of the “Accu-Stats Arena.” Pat Fleming (Accu-Stats) has been doing a great job in contributing towards the revitalization of pool on a local level providing a professional TV arena driving interest from pro players to play in local events.
There was a surprise showing besides the super-strong regional players such as “Ginky” George San Souci, Tony Robles, Ryan McCreesh, Manny Chau, Jonathan Smith, Oscar Bonilla, “Alaska” Sean Morgan, Joey Kong, Jeremy Sossei, and Shaun Wilke. Legendary pro Mike Sigel also made a rare appearance to compete. Mike is a 10-time World Champion and was also voted the Greatest Living Player of the 20th Century. It was also good to see that legendary straight pool player Earl Herring came out to compete as well.
Mike Sigel drew a big crowd and his ability to liven up a crowd left the pool room buzzing. While Mike played strong overall including several dominant sets, he lost to Tony Robles 9-7 and “Ginky” 9-6 leading to a respectable 4th place finish.
