Brunswick Billiards Supports Billiards in Europe, Sponsoring the Inaugural Brunswick European 10-Ball Open
April 28, 2009
Brunswick Billiards has been connecting generations through superior craftsmanship and innovation since 1845. They have been a leader in the industry of pool by supporting high quality events as well as continuing to lead with streamlined and innovative design.
The Gold Crown family of tables is personally what I grew up playing on, and I have always been impressed by the evolving spirit and style of the tables, leading up to their most recent Gold Crown V.
Brunswick Billiards partner Billiard Beckmann in Kaiserslautern, Germany, worked alongside the owners of Max Billiards Center in Oberhausen to establish Europe’s most stunning billiards club.
Max Billiards truly is groundbreaking and welcomed 64 top players in the inaugural Brunswick European 10-Ball Open.
Pool rooms and game rooms in homes, in my opinion, serve as an awesome social environment to connect and have fun with family and friends. Wether your goal is competition or entertainment, the pool table remains in my opinion the heart that stirs the blood of the largest participation sport on the planet.

Behind Every Great Man: Feature Story by Gail Glazebrook
April 27, 2009
Most pool players could easily tell you that, based on having a lifestyle that requires lots of travel and odd hours, maintaining relationships can sometimes be challenging. Gail Glazebrook, the lovely leading lady of the Predator 9-ball Tour and up-and-coming NYC pool player, wrote the following piece based on how some of the top pros in the game and their significant others weather the sometimes-murky territory of the billiard life.
…
Behind every great man, is a great woman. Right?
In pool, relationships are pretty scarce. A pool player’s life is backwards compared to most as work is often from 6pm to close Monday through Friday and on weekends for tournaments. Unless the significant other is also a touring player, date night, walks in the park, weekend vacations, & snuggle time before bed are often replaced with road trips to tournaments, rack by rack accounts, action reports and live streaming. With modest glory or monetary reward to counteract the difficult schedule, how is a pool player supposed to hold up his end of the bargain? Unless, of course, you’re a professional pool player.
Actually, that’s not a guarantee either.
Pool Instruction: CueTips #4 - Maximizing Ball In Hand
April 24, 2009
By NYC Grind Contributing Writer, Mark Finkelstein
I saw this position in a nine ball game that Gypsy was playing in. He made a really good move that we can all learn something from. He had ball in hand here. His play was to draw back into the 7 and do two things, get the 7 off the bad spot on the rail near the side pocket, and use the 7 to hold the cue ball for position on the 2.
What a great shot! Let’s look at how he maximized having ball in hand…

“Little Lightning” Strikes Twice: Yu Ram Cha Tops Men’s Field at the Ozone Orlando 10-ball Open
April 23, 2009
By NYC grind.com Contributing Writer “The Other” Alison Fischer
On Sunday, April 19th, Dragon Promotions and Ozone Billiards presented the Ozone Orlando 10-Ball Open at Corner Pocket Billiards in Orlando, Florida.
The host room, Corner Pocket, is now under new management, and plans on continuing to add new equipment and events to cater to their growing clientele. It is definitely a unique establishment, and features some very cool billiards memorabilia as well.
This handicapped event featured a number of Florida’s top players, including Thorsten Hohmann, Charlie Williams, Adam Wheeler, and current #5 ranked WPBA pro, Yu-Ram Cha.
Although there were a few well-known names, the handicapped format also attracted a lot of local players of different levels. The handicapping system was based on game spots–with beginner players racing to 3 games and top pros going to 8.

The main tournament began Saturday and drew sixty-two of the Tri-State area’s strongest players. The tournament structure lets the A-B players battle it out at the top of the chart, while the C-D players compete on the bottom.
Picking up right where he left off from the first A-B-C-D event (3rd place), Lionel Rivera took advantage of a first round bye and fell into dead stroke by defeating John Mazes 7-2, Craig Seal 7-4, Mike Wong 7-4 and Thomas Wan 7-4 to remain unscathed after the first day.
