64 of most of the Worlds Best Pool players began the week playing for a chance earn the monumental title of being called the 2008 World Straight Pool Champion.
Whiled Jasmin Ouschan barely squeaked by a into the final 32 players through grit and heart. Once clearing the 1st hurdle of making it past the difficult round robin format, Jasmin was forced to take a look at her level of play and look within and dig deep… if she wanted to show the world her amazing talent.
Jasmin Ouschan takes the game seriously, she works with a coach and is known as one of the most dynamic players in the game today. While Jasmin has earned everyones respect, and is known for a super strong game of straight pool… she still has a lot to prove.
Jasmin was forced to dig deep and show the world that not only can she “Hang” with the men pool players in pool, she can dominate.

Mika is currently the frontrunner with a very impressive record against his opponents.

The World Straight Pool Championships in East Brunswick NJ, is catching a gear. The tournament started with an impressive international field of 64 top pool players, and has now cut half of the field after the first round.
The tournament is a round robin format, which means that pool players have to make it past the first round to continue on.

East Brunswick, New Jersey- Day 2 has concluded in the first stage of the event, the Round Robin. 64 players were fighting for positioning for tomorrow’s final day, while a handful of players have already secured their spots for the cut of 32 players in the next round. USA’s Johnny Archer and Finland’s Mika Immonen are thus far undefeated with 5 wins each. Archer gave NYC fan favorite Steve Lipsky a loss while Immonen FIN breezed through Mike Davis USA to guarantee his spot. Bustamante outplayed Souquet to stay undefeated.

The Straight Pool World Championships is set to being today! There is a world class field set to kick off the 2008 World Straight Pool Championships in East Brunswick NJ from August 25-30th.
Dragon Promotions has released the updated version of the final groupings for the event.

East Brunswick, New Jersey- Francisco Bustamante PHI, Ignacio Chavez MEX, Alan Rolon PUR, Carmen Lombardo,USA, John Rousseau USA, and Earl Herring USA emerge from the shadows of the alternate list to replace some of the top names in The World 14.1. The event is being held at the Hilton East Brunswick, NJ from Aug 25-30,2008. A few of the top names that had run into challenges making the event included Dennis Hatch, George SanSouci, and Stevie Moore.
Bustamante will provide some pizazz for 14.1 fans
Philippines has sent their lone soldier, but it’s a good one. Francisco Bustamante will be making his international debut in 14.1 . Bustamante has for the past decade established himself on a level even higher than just a top pro player in the eyes of some of today’s best players.
“If you could pick four top pros that stand head and shoulders above the rest, Bustamante would be in that mix.” noted Raj Hundal, currently ranked #5 on the US Pro Rankings and representing India in the event.

China arrives on the Worlds Stage in not only the Beijing Olympics but in the Wolfs Den???

As the action of the Olympics heats up… it is cool to reflect back on another recent accomplishment for China… JIAN-LIN FU getting the gold at the the Challenge of Champions in earning $50,000 for first.
China has arrived on the worlds stage in 2008 in a very big way. The amazing Birds-nest stadium seemed to electrify the amazing Bejing skyline with the energy and electricity of the 2008 Olympics crowd and athletes. On a different note, here in the US, at Mohegan Sun Casino JIAN-LIN FU made China proud by winning the Challenge of Champions.
The Challenge of Champions took place in the Wolfs Den, in Uncasville Connecticut which was the battlefield of the fierce warriors that battled it out. This location was more gritty less glamorous than the twisted metal architectural wonder that is the stage set for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but was also a platform for a world class international field.
While Beijing’s Birdsnest stadium where the Olympics is being held seats 90K + people, the Wolfs den served as an intimate setting for the World Class Professional Pool players to try to make their country proud.
In the final match JIAN-LIN FU was impressive in earning wins in consecutive sets 5-1, 5-2. Dennis Orcollo is a Filipino sensation which is quickly becomming one of pool worlds most popular players.
