The WPBA San Diego Classic Kicks Off Tomorrow with Live Streaming Coverage from The Action Report

2009 San Diego Classic finalists Gerda Hofstatter (3rd), Monica Webb (1st), & Ga-Young Kim (2nd)
Tomorrow, March 11, the WPBA Women’s Professional Billiards Association will be kicking off the 2010 season with the San Diego Classic. This event will mark the 14th WPBA Classic Tour event held at the Viejas Casino in Alpine, CA, which will run from March 11-14. And, for the first time ever, The Action Report will be providing live streaming for the duration of the event (excluding the semifinal and final matches).
Among the 64 players slated to compete for this title are the nine tour newcomers who recently earned their tour qualification at the WPBA Regional Tour Championship. Included among them are players such as New York-based Emily Duddy, former junior champions Liz Lovely and Mary Rakin, and the new Regional Tour Champion Shu-Han Chang of Taiwan.
However, these rookies will have their work cut out for them as they will face tour vets like defending San Diego Classic Champion Monica Webb, WPBA #1-ranked Ga-Young Kim, and 2009 Women’s Player of the Year, Jasmin Ouschan, to name a few.
The WPBA’s players are already in San Diego, and to kick off the event, they are playing alongside area fans and players in a pro/am charity benefit this evening, starting at 6pm PST. Fans will also be able to watch live streaming of this event, starting at 10pm EST.
Read on for more about this event in the press release by Cristina de la Garza, along with more news on the WPBA’s 2010 season.

Kevin Guimond Battles Back in the Finals to Win Inaugural Empire State Amateur Championship on the Ozone Billiards Predator 9-ball Tour

"Wu Tang" Duane Toney (2st), Bob Schlott (3rd), Kevin Guimond (1st), Tony Robles (Tour Founder)
On March 6-7, 2010, Tony Robles and the Ozone Billiards Predator Tour staff & players made pool history in New York. This season, the Ozone Billiards Predator 9-Ball Tour introduced a new dual-tournament structure, allowing amateurs to compete amongst themselves instead of alongside the pros.

This move helped create the first-ever amateur 9-ball title in NY state, the Empire State Amateur Championships. The combination of having $2,500 added prize money, along with the ability to etch your name in the history books, pushed this event to exceed everyone’s expectations with a full field of 128 players at Raxx Pool Room, Bar & Grill in West Hempstead, NY.

Raxx Pool Room
Tony Robles announced that the event sold out at 12:15pm, and ultimately 15 players were turned away. Players from all around the Northeast came out to make a statement, including nine strong female contenders. While there were many stand-out matches… a few dominated with gritty performances.
Early on several players started the event off with strong performances, making their presence felt. Players that stood out were John Hasci, Yesid Garibello, Justin Muller, Scott Simonetti, Niko Berdzenishvili, Thomas Wan, Raphael Dabreo, Eddie Crespo, Daniel Smith, and Tom Seminaro Jr. of CT.
